The Adoption Bill 2009 was passed in the Seanad on 2nd July 2010.
The Adoption Act 2010 was signed into law by the President on Wednesday the 14th July 2010.
The commencement date for the new Act is 1st November 2010.

The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Mr. Barry Andrews T.D. launched the Adoption bill 2009 in January 2009. This bill's aim was to consolidate all previous adoption legislation in Ireland, and to ratify the Hague Convention on the Protection of Children and Co-operation in respect of Intercountry Adoption.

Committee State Debate on Adoption Bill - 17 February 2010
The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children will commence the committee stage debate on the Adoption Bill on Wednesday 17th February, at 11am.

IAA Submission to the Minister - October 2009. The Bill is 110 pages, and is supported by the Hague Convention itself, as well as lengthy documents which explain the intent of the Convention. As such the IAA convened an ad-hoc groups to review the Bill, and has identified a number of issues which may need to be addressed. This group prepared a submission for the Minister for Children, based on their analysis of the Bill. This submission can be downloaded by clicking here.
